Product Summary B/M
Product Summary B/M has mainly two meanings: one refers to the Summarized Bill of Materials as a parts list, and the other refers to the list itself summarizing the data as a Bill of Materials. When saying "Product Summary B/M" or "Product Summary-type B/M", it usually often refers to the latter, which is a Bill of Materials summarizing parts and raw materials necessary to generate an item under a form of list regardless of the order of processing parts or assembling products. In contrast, a Bill of Materials considering the order of processing parts or assembling products is called Product Structure B/M. As shown in the figure, e.g. although Product Z originally consists of Component X and Part b, and Component X consists of Part a and Part b, these levels are ignored and parts and raw materials are summarized under Product X. This is a compendium method used for cost calculation or purchasing logistics.
