When a unified volume of several-type assemblies are used by various types of items, a pseudo item (dummy item) is set to the group. The bill of materials with such dummy items is called Dummy Bill of Materials. Looking at he assemblies of Item X and Y, in the example shown in the figure, both have the same item, a, b, and c, and the different assemblies are only washer s and t. In this case, by unifying item, a, b, and c as one dummy item and creating the Dummy Bill of Materials, the data volume of the bill will be reduced and its maintenance and control will be easier.
